A Search for Peace
by: Fayth Snyder
There is gentleness and peace still to be found in this world. It resides in that which we were born of. In the early morning fog lingering over the lake. In the bullfrog’s croak echoing through the reeds. In the family of geese, goslings lined up in a perfect row. In the squirrel that drinks from a once swollen lake’s remnant puddles. In the distant sound of a woodpecker drilling holes into trees that are older than us. We forget this world in lieu of action and violence and endless preoccupation. We chase entertainment desperately, for our minds terrify us in silent, lonesome moments. Imagine what the mind might produce if we allow it to bask in its natural habitat, dig our toes into the mud we rose from. Be inspired by the intricacies of an overlooked miracle: the veins on the belly of a beetle chewed leaf, a fluffy yellow down feather floating along in a creak. Cherish the little happenings in nature, just for a moment each day, and perhaps we will rediscover beauty in this world of ours.
