HISTORY

Ginkgo Magazine has spent years impacting the lives of the Susquehanna University student body, regardless of the fact that the first issue did not release until Spring of 2024. In the time before, Ginkgo Magazine operated as a blog run by SU’s Sustainability Office. “The Ginkgo” was a place for students to share their experiences, advice, and photographs that showcased sustainable efforts, especially those based in the campus community. In 2023, “The Ginkgo” was given to Celia Lansing ‘25 and the English and Creative Writing Department by Callie Lambard ‘23. To learn more about Lambard’s experience with The Ginkgo, please check out this interview with her.

Once Lansing took the reins, “The Ginkgo” became Ginkgo Magazine, an environmental magazine that publishes creative works, academic works, and photography. This project was ambitious and would not have been possible without the team that Lansing employed: Maggie Mauro ‘25, Victoria Vile ‘25, Hal Dittbrenner ‘25, Lexie Kauffman ‘25, Jennifer Martin ‘25, and Catie Scheidemann ‘26

Moreover, Lansing applied for and received the opportunity to turn Ginkgo Magazine into a Build Collaborative project, an active learning and project management program that provides funding and real-world experiences. Ginkgo Magazine would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the Build Collaborative Fellows: Celia Lansing ‘25, Jaidyn Steinbrecher ‘26, and Emma Church ‘26. Ginkgo Magazine editors will come and go as this magazine continues to thrive, but all associated staff will continue to recognize those that came before them, honoring the days of “The Ginkgo” and the hard work of the founders with each and every issue.
